Wardrobe maths

How long should it actually take to wear your wardrobe?

Check the sustainability of your wardrobe. Enter how many of each garment type you own, how often they are worn and for which seasons. We'll work out the minimum wears you've committed to that will cover the associated carbon footprint and the years it will take you to reach the milestone.

This is also a research study. It is voluntary and you can use the calculator whether or not you share your information. For more information on the study click the link above. If you would like your wardrobe numbers to be included in the study, please click the button below once you have entered all your wardrobe details.

MINIMUM WEARING YEARS COLOUR KEY
  • Green: Manageable level — only replace items when worn out.
  • Orange: Verging on too much — consider not replacing some items when worn out.
  • Red: Too many  — don't replace items as they are worn out to reduce levels.

How it's calculated

Total min wears = items owned × minimum wears per item. Revised wears/year = wearing frequency × seasonality. Years to reach = total min wears ÷ revised wears. Minimum wears follows the guidelines mapped out by the EU to cover the minimum average garment carbon footprint.
